K.Harlon

Keph realized early in life that he had a natural talent for writing. He starts his writing process subconsciously. He hears a beat or rhythm in his head and then transcends into the role of another and begins the creative process of writing lyrics. Keph rarely allows personal or emotional episodes to be the basis of his lyrical writings; he prefers his songs to tell a story and hopes that others are able to empathize with his songs. Keph wants his music to be as timeless as possible, not just what is popular right now. He wants people to still want to listen to his music years from now when the genre changes.

The turning point for Keph was the day he picked up a guitar and started playing, realizing how complimentary playing the guitar was to his lyrical writings. Keph soon learned he not only was able to write lyrics, but also the music to accompany the lyrics. He studied musical theory and how it applies to guitar to enhance his musical talent.

Keph’s roots are in jazz and blues and this compliments his music by combining multiple musical genres into an eclectic ageless sound. Keph’s favorite song changes frequently, but currently is “Peace Frog” by The Doors. He appreciates the groove, breakdown, lyrics, composition, as well as the way Jim Morrison sings the song.

Keph prefers bands who stay true to the music; unconcerned with staying mainstream, willing to venture into new musical areas, all the while being unique without trying to do so, like the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Slash, David Gilmour, and Kim Thayill are all guitarists Keph aspires to emulate.

We’ll leave you with Keph’s favorite quote by Carl Sagan – “Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence.”
